Founded by Nicholas Barton, Harbour Pictures was originally set up in 1999. The company commenced feature film development and production in 2000 with the commissioning of a script for Calendar Girls. Harbour Pictures was then approached by Buena Vista International UK to finance the development, production and distribution of Calendar Girls.
In 2000, Harbour Pictures negotiated the rights to The Kinky Boot Factory and struck a deal with Buena Vista for the development and production of this film as well as Calendar Girls. With both films now in development, a first look deal with Buena Vista was negotiated in the spring of 2001.
Calendar Girls starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, was filmed in the summer of 2002, and was released worldwide in 2003/2004. Calendar Girls became the 7th highest grossing British film ever in the UK, with over £20 million at the UK box office and aproximately $100 million internationally.
Harbour has just produced ” Swallow & Amazons ” for BBC Films, BFI, Studio Canal and Hanway Films . The company has numerous other films in development and pre production .
